PUZZLE 003 [VIOLET CITY - VIDEO/ACTION]

[[As soon as she set foot in Violet City, Emmy immediately sought out the Gym for a battle! However, if you've got your Pokegear on or you're near the Pokemon Centre, you'll see her and her Machop emerging, looking...rather defeated.]]

Well, that certainly could've gone better.

[[Almost in unison, the pair sigh and seat themselves on a bench outside the centre.]]

That Falkner fellow had some horribly powerful Pokemon! That creepy owl....gosh, I had no idea what to do! Perhaps we shouldn't have rushed in there so soon. I'm sorry, Machi.

[[The Machop frantically waves her arms and points to herself, before sighing and slapping her palm against her forehead.]]

It wasn't your fault!

[[Emmy smiles, and puts a friendly arm around her Pokemon's shoulders.]]

Don't worry, Machi. The Professor wouldn't give up and neither will we! We just have to train harder so that next time, we're ready! We're not going to lose to the likes of him!

[...ah, a new person! With something he's never seen before, pokemon-wise, on top of it. Hmmm. Let's approach - oh, sounds like she's having a bit of a bad time, doesn't it. But if it's related to the gyms...]

Did you just try to take on the Gym?

[ Miyako has just been derping around Violet lately, losing interest in her part time job and cutting shifts whenever she can. She can't help but notice Emmy on the bench and stops to give her a curious look. ]

Your Machop will always be disadvantaged against his Flying-types unless you reach a much higher level, Miss. Have you any other teammates to use?

[ Oh, that doesn't sound very good, does it? Have a cheery smile from Hughes anyways, Emmy ]

The Gym battle didn't go so well, I take it?

[[Emmy turns when she hears the voice, smiling somewhat ruefully.]]

I'm afraid I did, but it didn't turn out too well on my end. These Gym Leaders are terribly powerful. I probably should have done more research.

You just went in there?

[That...actually isn't criticism, despite all the disbelief; it sounds more impressed than anything.

...yeah, okay, kid's practically sparkling at you, Emmy.]

But they're supposed to be some of the strongest in the region, aren't they? You must be very brave to just...challenge them like that!

The Gym leaders here are quite strong, aren't they?

Me too! I want to try to take on these "Gym leaders" myself one day - what was this one like? How strong, do you think?

I'm afraid he is, unless he learns Electric- Ice- or Rock-type attacks.

Here we are! Noctowl, Honchkrow, and Pidgeot! I can't give you a quantitative answer for their strength levels, but let's just say that we were quite overwhelmed!

I suppose so. We'll get him next time, don't you worry!

Ah, yes! I'm right outside the Pokemon Centre. Where are you?

Would any of these be good against Flying types? I'm afraid I'm still rather new to all this.

Outside the Pokemon Centre...?

He's actually inside the Pokemon Centre currently, and so all he really has to do is walk outside. And he's spotted you! Turn around, Emmy. ]

[[Wheeeee finally meeting someone from this Pokegear thing face to face, this is quite an experience!]]

I suppose I should say it's lovely to meet you, but we've already met!

It's still lovely nonetheless!

[ His Eevee is happily bounding toward you and taking a seat right in front of your feet and staring up at you. She might be looking for a pet or two... ]

[[Hnghhhhh it's so cute she might. she might have to pet it...

And she will make room on the bench next to her should Hughes want to sit!]]

So as I was saying, I'm afraid my gym battle was quite the disaster! Have you had a look into it at all, Maes?

[ He'll take that seat! Maes barely had much respect for personal space anyways... ]

Hmm, well, did he use a lot of bird Pokemon?

[ He's tapping his chin thoughtfully, and then glancing over at the Machop. That's curious... Maes takes out his Pokegear and points it toward Machop. It beeps and then starts to spew out some information about the Pokemon ]

Ah! This might be why it was so difficult to defeat the Gym Leader. If I remember correctly, fighting types like this [ glancing at 'Gear to remind himself the name of this Pokemon ] Machop aren't very effective against bird types.
