[[As soon as she set foot in Violet City, Emmy immediately sought out the Gym for a battle! However, if you've got your Pokegear on or you're near the Pokemon Centre, you'll see her and her Machop emerging, looking...rather defeated.]]

Well, that certainly could've gone better.

[[Almost in unison, the pair sigh and seat themselves on a bench outside the centre.]]

That Falkner fellow had some horribly powerful Pokemon! That creepy owl....gosh, I had no idea what to do! Perhaps we shouldn't have rushed in there so soon. I'm sorry, Machi.

[[The Machop frantically waves her arms and points to herself, before sighing and slapping her palm against her forehead.]]

It wasn't your fault!

[[Emmy smiles, and puts a friendly arm around her Pokemon's shoulders.]]

Don't worry, Machi. The Professor wouldn't give up and neither will we! We just have to train harder so that next time, we're ready! We're not going to lose to the likes of him!

Alright, so I'll train up Abby but hold back on Nida! And poor Bug and Machi are just not designed to take on those birds. Got it!

Fairly recent, yes! Violet City is my first major regional centre. I'd planned to grab the badge and go but it looks like my plans have been derailed somewhat! I'll have to stay here for a bit while I train up Abby.

That'd explain it. It took my own team three months before we reached a level that could compensate for our lack of type advantage.

Although...all Abby really does is sort of disappear and reappear nearby...like teleporting. Is there really a way she can win with only that technique?

[He thinks about it for a few seconds.]

Teleport could suffice if you used it to make the opponent charge at a rock or fall into a trap, perhaps, but that'll not help very much for regular training. You could always seek out a Move Tutor and teach her new attacks, or have her train with another member of your team until she learns new attacks.

...learns...new attacks. Great! So we'll just have to keep training until she learns something she can use against those birds!

Well, I've never had a problem with training, so this should be quite fun! Perhaps once I'm stronger, you and I could have a battle, Mr Harvey!

Exactly. As long as you send her out regularly, it should not take too long.

Of course not. That's the sort of levels you'll need for the last Gym, after all. In fact, I'd suggest finding a Pokémon that can learn Ice-type attacks early. It'll be quite useful in the end.

Ice-type attacks, got it! What sort of Pokemon does the last gym use?

Dragon-types. Those are quite rare, unless you obtain one from a breeder.

Dragons. ...As a matter of fact, the Gyarados is only a Water- and Flying-type, but it certainly looks like a dragon.

You've no need to worry. They look impressive, but a single Electric attack is usually enough against them.

....maybe we should look into those sheep, Machi.

I didn't realise Pokemon could get so fearsome!

They'd be the most accessible Electric-types, unless you are willing to wait until Ecruteak.

[Which is impractical at best.]

Yet Gyarados starts out looking quite innocent.

Ooh, maybe I could catch one! In it's little form, that is! Wouldn't that be amazing?

You might have seen swarms of red fish in the ponds and at the beach on the way. They should be easy to recognize, as they have no attacks at low levels. If you catch one, you merely need to raise it to level 20 to obtain your very own Gyarados. It's an excellent investment.

What? Those silly-looking red fish really evolve into that?

Do you know how I'd go about catching one, Mr Harvey? They always seem so far out!

Most pokémarts sell simple fishing rods. They rarely last very long, but you should still manage to catch a fish or two. I doubt many breeders sell their eggs.

Ah, of course, a fishing rod! I'm so silly. I'm definitely going to invest in one of those, then!
